“Unexpected Friendship: When a Dog and Bird Became Best Buddies”

It’s quite a sight to see dogs and cats getting along, but this particular pair of a duck and dog is something else! Meet Pekin Andy, a four-year-old duck, and Barclay, a golden retriever. Despite their contrasting personalities and appearance, they’ve become the closest of friends. Pam Ishiguro, their owner, has noticed that these two are practically glued to each other, and although they may have minor disagreements, their friendship remains steadfast.

The two buddies enjoying each other’s company share a unique bond. They often have a love-hate relationship where they playfully chase and jump around when together, but call out for each other when separated. The younger one, Barclay, has a specific love for duck chow and sneaks into the coop to grab a bite whenever possible. He also takes joy in drinking the ducks’ bathwater and sniffing their rear-ends if he can do it quietly without getting caught.

Barclay gives Andy a warm hug, enveloping him in his arms.

As per Ishiguro, Barclay had a phobia of ducklings and steered clear of them. But, he has recently conquered his fear, which is a welcome change. There is a possibility that he picked up this behavior from their other pet dog, Izzy, who used to hunt the ducklings. The family was concerned about Izzy hurting them, and they disciplined him whenever he tried to approach them. It appears that Barclay also observed and learned from this, and now he doesn’t seem to be frightened of the ducks. Interestingly, the dogs are so comfortable around each other that they even snooze and relax together.

Often, the pair cuddles on the sofa.

Things changed when the baby ducks grew up and became bigger than Izzy. One chase from them was enough to show Izzy who was in charge. As a result, his fear of the ducks has grown considerably.

Notwithstanding the ducks’ company, Barclay remained composed and relaxed. He seemed to relish being around his owner, Andy, and one could see them cuddling together on the sofa often. Despite being an unusual combination, the dog and ducks were comfortable sitting together, and Barclay appeared to enjoy their presence.

They looked so cute together!
