One day, Duncan, a tired and worn-out 12-year-old boy, found refuge under a dumpster in a junkyard after unknowingly wandering in. A kind employee noticed him and rushed to bring him some food and water. It was clear to her that Duncan was blind and in a dire situation. While her supervisor suggested calling animal control, she knew that a public shelter wouldn’t be suitable for him. Acting fast, she reached out to a rescue organization to help save him.
When Hope for Paws got the message about Duncan, they rushed to the junkyard to rescue him. Despite being offered more food, the elderly dog seemed lost and bewildered, prompting the rescuers to move quickly to get him out of the chaotic environment.
Duncan, being old, blind, and ailing, didn’t object as they placed a leash around his neck. He allowed his saviors to gently pull him out from under the dumpster without any resistance.
When Duncan was finally rescued, it was clear just how much he had been neglected. The rope around his neck suggested that he was once cared for by someone who had failed him. During the car ride to the vet, Duncan allowed his rescuers to pet and show him love, possibly experiencing affection for the first time in years.
“I apologize on behalf of whoever did this to you, I truly am sorry,” Duncan’s rescuers expressed multiple times in a video capturing his rescue.
Duncan, a blind dog who was also suffering from exhaustion, a skin illness, ulcers, and two tumours, was recommended to be euthanized by the vet to end his suffering. However, his rescuers believed that Duncan deserved a chance to experience love after years of neglect. Hope for Paws reached out to the Frosted Faces Foundation, specialists in caring for senior dogs, who quickly agreed to take Duncan in. Placed in a foster home, Duncan thrived in a caring environment, despite his dementia. He enjoys snuggling and lounging in laundry baskets, with his foster family always there to comfort him when he gets confused.
