“Bully, the oldest rescue dog, turns 23 and celebrates with a paw-some party”

It is unfortunately true that dogs do not live as long as humans, but there are some lucky ones who are able to enjoy their senior years. For these dogs, every birthday is a special occasion. One such dog is a rescue Chihuahua named Bully, who recently celebrated his 23rd birthday – an impressive age in dog years. Bully had lived a long life prior to being taken in by the senior dog rescue organization, The Mr. Mo Project, when his previous owner was no longer able to care for him.

As dogs age, it becomes increasingly challenging for them to adapt to unfamiliar surroundings. This is especially true for Bully, also referred to as Bobo, who is considered a “super senior” in dog years due to surpassing the average life expectancy of Chihuahuas. Despite the odds against him, Bully has managed to settle into his new home and continue to flourish after spending two years in a rescue center.

Chris Hughes, the owner of the rescue center, describes Bully as a dog with multiple personalities. He is feisty, naughty, sweet, independent, gentle, and calm, but what stands out the most is his old man bark. Even at his age, he still likes to push around one of the Chihuahuas in their care. At the ripe old age of 23, Bully is now the oldest resident of the rescue center. When his birthday came around, the staff celebrated in style. According to a Facebook post, Bully was born on April 5, 1999, making him one of the few dogs that have lived through two different millenniums. This is an incredible achievement that only a few dogs could dream of reaching. Despite the momentous occasion, Bully preferred a more low-key celebration.

According to Hughes, they gave the senior dog a soft biscuit because he doesn’t have many teeth left and they crumbled it up for him to enjoy. The dog loves to sleep, so they believe that is the best gift they can give him. Chris Hughes and his wife Mariesa founded the Mr. Mo Project. They have a soft spot for senior dogs, and their inspiration to start the rescue came when they cared for a 12-year-old dog named Moses who was surrendered for “being too old.” The couple has spent more than $55,000 to convert their home into a sanctuary for senior dogs to ensure these often-overlooked pets have a safe, loving place to call home in their twilight years.

Chris stated to Insider that they both have full-time jobs apart from working on The Mr. Mo Project, which they consider a labor of love. The money they spend all goes toward the project. It is an incredible feat for Bully to reach 23 years old and we wish him more joyous years. Help us celebrate this milestone by sharing this news and sending him birthday wishes.
