A pack of laborers stationed on an offshore oil platform, approximately 220 kilometers from the shores of Thailand, were taken aback by the unexpected sight of a canine gracefully gliding through the vast expanse of the ocean.
Upon discovery, the diminutive brown canine displayed shivers induced by the biting cold. The circumstances surrounding how the dog had ventured so far away from the shore remain rather mysterious.
According to Vitisak Payalaw, his fellow workers stumbled upon the dog valiantly swimming towards the oil rig on the evening of April 12th, its endurance teetering on its final reserves. Deploying a stick as a means of rescue, they endeavored to aid the small creature. Regrettably, the tumultuous waves proved insurmountable, impeding the canine from ascending.
Payalaw expressed how crucial timing was in their efforts to assist the animal. Their prompt actions played a vital role in offering the much-needed help. Payalaw emphasized the challenging nature of the rescue, as the animal’s ability to cling on to something played a significant role in their ability to save it.
According to Payalaw, the dog had such heart-wrenching eyes. It seemed to gaze upwards, with a silent plea for assistance. In that instance, anyone who laid eyes on the dog would have undoubtedly extended a helping hand.
A group of workers came up with a plan to rescue a dog that was struggling in the water. They decided to lower a rope, wrap it around the dog, and pull it up to safety. The poor dog was completely soaked and had no energy left, making it unable to stand on its own. Once it was brought onto the oil rig, the workers made sure to give the dog some electrolyte water to help revive it. The compassionate workers even gave the dog a name – Boonrod, which translates to “survivor” in Thai.
The following morning, on April 15th, Boonrod was brought back to the mainland and handed over to an organization that takes care of animals. Currently, the little dog is receiving the necessary care at a veterinary clinic in the province of Songkhla. Payalaw, one of the workers who participated in the rescue, mentioned that if no one comes forward to claim Boonrod, he will gladly adopt the dog himself.
