Every single dog should receive love and the utmost care, even those with physical disabilities who often end up abandoned. Angela Adan, a compassionate animal rescuer from Tehachapi, California, has made it her mission to welcome these neglected dogs into her home. While she has grown accustomed to taking in forsaken canines, there was one small dog who touched her heart like no other, bringing tears to her eyes within moments of their first encounter.
Angela decided to employ a clever strategy in her quest to locate the small canine. She embarked on a four-hour drive, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to retrieve the furry friend and deliver them to safety. However, upon unraveling the blanket that swathed the adorable being, a wave of disappointment washed over Angela. The miniature chihuahua mix exhibited obvious signs of various health concerns, such as protruding eyes, an excessive number of teeth, and front legs that were splayed, rendering walking an arduous task.
While examining the undernourished pup and gently caressing her fragile frame, Angela was taken aback when the dog promptly lifted her tiny face and began showering her with affectionate licks. This heartwarming gesture made Angela realize that the dog was expressing gratitude for her help and compassion, solidifying her decision to keep the dog as part of her own diverse clan of rescue dogs at home. Without hesitation, Angela welcomed the pup into her loving care, knowing that a shelter was no place for this special canine.
“I have these moments when I can feel dogs expressing their gratitude, and this was definitely one of those moments,” Angela shared. She chose to name the dog Freddie Mercury and began showering her with all the affection she had yearned for in the early years of her life.
Due to her walking difficulties, Freddie is often playfully referred to by Angela as “T-Rex” when she stands on her hind legs. Despite knowing that Freddie’s health issues may limit her time, Angela is determined to love her wholeheartedly. She believes that embracing and caring for “broken” dogs has helped her stay focused on what truly matters – appreciating every precious moment life presents us with.
People often inquire about my ability to care for a special needs dog, knowing that her time with me may be limited. My response is quite simple: dogs teach me to live in the present and find joy in every moment. I make a conscious effort to fully appreciate the time I have with my furry companion, without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Life is unpredictable, so it’s important to take breaks when needed and fully embrace the present moment that we are fortunate to have.
This particular dog holds a unique place in my heart, as do all of them. However, there is something truly special about her. The way she looks at me with pure gratitude is truly heartwarming.
We believe so strongly that Angela and Freddie are a perfect couple that it feels as though destiny itself brought them together.
