“Unforgettable Bond: A Blind Dog’s Heartwarming Friendship”

The friendship between two dogs, Siberian husky Sterling and Alaskan Malamute Walker, goes beyond the human-canine bond. Sterling was diagnosed with glaucoma four years ago which left him blind. Walker, his best dog friend, has since acted as his unofficial guide dog. Lillian and Martin McKee, the loving owners of both dogs, rescued them from Texas Sled Dog Rescue in Houston a year apart from each other. Both dogs were instrumental in helping each other overcome their fears and new challenges. Although Sterling’s eyes started to get cloudy in June 2018, they fought to preserve his vision for 18 months by using RexSpecs, goggles made specifically for dogs. Despite the diagnosis, Sterling’s life did not change as they promised him and both dogs continue to enjoy outdoor adventures together in Seattle.

Sterling, a Siberian husky who has lost his sight, still enjoys the activities he loves. He runs with his friends Martin and Walker regularly, hikes with his human parents, and volunteers with Washington Alaskan Malamute Rescue. Though Sterling’s bond with his family has grown stronger, he only wrestles and plays with Walker. The two dogs are very close and enjoy spending time together, including outdoor adventures and napping near each other. Walker is very respectful of Sterling, despite the latter frequently bumping into him due to his blindness. Unlike other sighted dogs who might get angry at a blind dog for such behavior, Walker seems to know that Sterling needs special consideration. Lillian and Martin document the boys’ lives on their Instagram account @sterlingandwalker.
