This was the case for K9 Gunner and his officer during a training session at Kings Mountain State Park Living History Farm in South Carolina. The 3-year-old bloodhound suddenly broke free from the handler and ran into the woods, prompting several police officers to launch a search mission.
As per the York County Sheriff’s Office, Gunner and his owner got separated around 3 p.m. An extensive search was conducted for the lost dog with the help of multiple police departments including the Gaston County Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and even a helicopter and ATVs were dispatched to assist in the hunt. Despite searching for over 25 hours, Gunner could not be located and it wasn’t until the following morning that he was finally reunited with his handler. Though he was cold, wet, and thirsty, thankfully, the pooch was otherwise unharmed and in good health.
